I joined the coaching programme because I am fully committed to empowering others. I have worked in education for 19 years; before that I worked in social care in residential social work. Training and development has always been important to me. As a Head of School at Tor Bridge High I lead on teaching and learning and coach the research leads in our Action Research Group, therefore coaching is an integral part of my role. I got really interested in coaching when I completed NPQH and it was brilliant to coach and be coached. Over last year I coached one person last year using the grow model in six face-to-face sessions; she has recently become a Curriculum Leader who will be a senior leader in no time at all.
The greatest fulfilment of being a coach is supporting people to find their self-belief and the strength within them to set highly aspirational goals. I think it is essential that particularly in the South West, where we are all scattered about, that we ensure this coaching programme is well promoted to give everyone the opportunity to get involved.
